Default Skip Plate

How many people take off thier skid plate? how much protection does it actually give? after removal does it help air flow?

I don't know about a yamaha but if you run an Ezgo much without the skid plate it will literally pull the engine block apart.

I'm not sure what foam you're referring to but some of the Yamaha guys will be along shortly to give you the answer you need.

Ok,I know the foam you're talking about now and yea it probably serves a couple of purposes like to keep the engine & plate from rubbing each other and as you said sound deadner.

Why would you want to do that? Just wondering...

My G9 had the plate removed before I got the cart, been running the way for years with stock engine and a v-twin. On and off road never had a problem (I'm knocking on wood). Yes, much better air flow and way easier to clean the mud out. It dose make the cart a bit louder though.

When i had mine down to the bare frame, I welded 1/4" nuts where the rivets used to go for the skid plate. Now I use bolts to hold it on, I can take it off if I choose or need to clean under there. I'm hoping it keeps water out a little better and it's not worth blowing a rear end out on a rock, if you have the skid plate sitting around in your shop somewhere! The insulation I removed, shot anyway.
So i keep mine on!! Also I bet these rear ends are getting expensive?!
I've got a picture, but it's not good.
