G9 engine performance

Last week I posted a thread asking for advice on increasing the speed of my G9. I got a lot of good input. the follow up is that the previous owner installled the throttle cable wrong, and the carb didn't barely open. That adjustment combined with governor adjustment and sealing up the airbox worked great. The cart is significantly quicker. My new questions are does anyone know what the maximum RPM's are for that 92 G9 motor, and what may be a safe RPM for WOT? Also any suggestions on how to hook up a tach? I've got and old Sun dial style tach (not electronic) to keep an eye on the engine. Thanks again for your input.

I don't know about the stock G9 motor but on a Club Car is best to stay under 3500 - 4000 rpms if my memory is correct.

We use Tiny Tachs (electronic tach/ hour meters) on our carts.

Mike, I only stay at WOT. for about 10 to 15 seconds! Then I get out of it. And I have my throttle opening only to about 80%.
High R's will shorten the life of most small low speed motors. So if you want to ride trouble free keep your foot out of it, for the most part!

I've run my G9 since '99 with no governor, with 22" tires, no problems I run it until it will not go faster. I don't stay on it down hills though only on level, I don't hold it wot once it makes max speed unless it is uphill, letting off to half throttle it will go ~1mph slower on level ground. Its tired now it gets hot and loses power. With stock tires I'd say leave the governor on, it does not go much faster than a tight governor...but you can do what you want. With a lift and the higher gear of large tires it can't rev that high unless you go down a hill on a road/etc because the gears load it down. If you don't lift a cart seriously consider saving your pennies for high speed gears, they really work on a non lifted cart and are worth every cent. I think you could over rev it on small tires and stock gears, do the right thing and fix that problem then toss the governor and don't try to hit 7K rpm down a hill, lol. and you will be all smiles.

Thanks everbody, but I just got off the phone with my wife, and found that the cart was stolen. How's that for bad luck. I hope to find it, because my kids really enjoyed it. If I don't recover it, I'll be posting some parts for sale that are being shipped right now.

From my garage. My wife left the door open, and fell asleep. She woke up, went in the garage, and it was gone. No key in it.. I didn't put a lock on it. There were some kids asking me a couple of questions about it over the weekend, so I calledthe cops. Who knows if they will be able to help. There are alot of kids in my neighborhood that I helped fix there go karts and gas scooters, so I'll be doing a little informal investigation of my own. That's life in South Florida. I already found another G9 locally online. The guy says it runs good. The cart looks good in the picture he sent. He's asking 1000.00. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I'm hoping he wants to bargain a little, or I'll have an assortment of parts to sell. I've got 4 tires with about 90% tread on rims, a windshield never installed, front and rear engine cowls, and one of those universal mirrors. Hopefully I'll have a cart to put them on.
