85 g1 will not reverse
I just recently got this g1 that did not run at all. I was able to find a blown fuse and two bad wires that i replaced and then reconnected the carb that was disconnected. It runs forward now even thou sometimes it takes awhile to get running. My question is when I put in reverse and try to go the belt turns slow but it will not seem to kick over or idle up and move. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can start with. Thanks. P.S. love this site....

Re: 85 g1 will not reverse
Check the batttery and the battery connections first. Which two wires were bad?

Re: 85 g1 will not reverse
I just replaced battery and battery cables. The two bad wires where close to the battery looked like the battery was moving and they had some rub damage. Still no backing up. Any ideas will help.

Re: 85 g1 will not reverse
You say "belt turns slow". are you referring to the starter/gen belt (engine cranks slow and won't start) or the drive belt (engine starts but won't rev up and move the cart)? If it is the first situation, Check your solenoid connections for looseness and corrosion. Swap solenoids and see if it will start in reverse but not forward. You may have a bad solenoid.

Re: 85 g1 will not reverse
I switched around the solinoids and wire brush cleaned the connections, still goes forward but no reverse. But I just noticed that when going forward only the back passenger wheel moves? To answer your other question it is the belt from the starter moving slow (in the first post)

Re: 85 g1 will not reverse
Might want to check the "light blue" and "yellow" wires at the back of the solenoids. With a volt meter, put the black lead on battery negative, positive lead on lite blue (reverse solenoid), key in reverse and push the pedal, you should read battery voltage, if not wireharness or ignition switch problem. You can do the same thing with the yellow wire (forward solenoid). The small black wires should read battery voltage all the time. Hope this helps diagnoss your problem.
