250cc Yamaha Engine ?
We are looking for a GAS (2nd cart). I have stumbled on a 2001 Yamaha with a 250cc Yamaha Engine.. Am I correct in understanding that this is like a motorcycle engine ??
About how fast will a golf cart go with a 250cc engine? |

Re: 250cc Yamaha Engine ?
Depends on what engine it is, yamaha makes engines for all kinds of things like sleds, motorcycles, quads, hard to say. Is it 2 stroke or 4?

2001 should be a G16 with a 301cc 4 stroke engine. I don't know where this engine came from, I'd guess with their success in GCs they made it just for GCs. Their first cart, the G1, had a detuned snowmobile engine in it. It was a 2 stroke engine. All the 4 stroke engines are similar except for the newest Drive cart it has more power 357cc & 11.4hp. But they are all similar in that they have splash lubrication, single slanted cylinder, cylinder in block design, air cooled, etc. They are very similar to newer design commercial engines such as the Honda GX and single Vanguard engines. |

Ok, sounds like they just dropped a used motor in it. Dont know what happened to the original.. Cart has already been sold.. Dont know about it mechanically, but it "looked" good...

Re: 250cc Yamaha Engine ?
Some people put a bravo engine in them, a 2 stroke snowmobile from the late 70s early 80s. But they usually do that with older G1 golfcarts because they can put the G1 ignition on it and it will run backwards like the G1 did....otherwise they would have no reverse with a new engine. They run pretty good, the bravo has more power than the G1 did, especially if you keep the chambered pipe on it. If its not that, then must be an ATV engine hard to say.

Re: 250cc Yamaha Engine ?
I assumed the Enticer had the same engine in it, but I am not sure. That was out in '77. I rode an ET340 when I was a kid, at the time it was fast for a 340 I think it would do 65-70mph and the 250 about 50mph....roughly as sled speedos can be far from correct. The EX440 was faster but an older design. All the Yamaha sled motors were great engines from the mid 70s to mid 80s, except the early Vmax of course. You can get them cheap if you dig around, I so wish I had time to play around with one or three. I had a pipe for a 540 SRV and I finally sold it, really made it run nice.

Re: 250cc Yamaha Engine ?
You had to get it going down a road or lake. I remember because we also had a '70 scorpion sled that was ported out and would run 70mph. It beat a lot of other sleds back then and what a.....er, something to ride. It was like those bucking machines in the bars down south lol! That 9 year newer 340 would hang with it or close. The newer EX440 would roll right on by it must have run around 80, just guessing, but it was a very light sled all aluminum. It would pull the skis every time you gassed it if you sat back on the seat, but you could adjust the weight on the skis in the suspension. Now a lot of sleds top 100mph no problem, friend has a 900 cat that has 150hp stock. I rode it and not being used to it, it felt more like a slingshot. I mean you hold the gas on for like 3 seconds and let off and the speedo says 60+mph, he has 300 studs in the track.
