Red face G2 alignment

I wonder if I can get some advice. I recently put an allsport lift on my G2 and need to adjust the toe. I know how it is done but I don't know where to reference the front tires to so I know that they are centered and pointing straight ahead. In another words how do I find the starting point for the alignment. I tried using the steering wheel but that didn't work perhaps the previous owner removed it and didn't put it back in the same spot. Any help would be appreciated.

I roll the car forward 15' to ensure it is going straight, and I start from there. i measure from the forward edge of the rim, and the back edge of the rim, providing the rims aren't bent. And then I cut a piece of 1"x2" about 2"s shorter that the wheel to wheel measurement, so you only have to measure a couple inches with a tape. Measuring from the rim, I would set it to be 1/8" toe in or less. Measure from the center line of the axles.
Before you reset the steering wheel, test drive it to make sure you have done it correctly, so you have a reference point to return to if your wrong. Or count how many turns "lock to lock" the steering wheel turns and go half that and your in the center. But you still have to push the car forward to make sure it is tracking straight ahead.
Good luck,
Hope you understand, I don't know how to draw pictures on a computer.

I think the proper way is that, turn the wheel lock to lock and back half that many turns to center. Pull the wheel back off and center it if someone screwed it up. I think all yamaha the steering box is the stop for the wheels. If you don't center it then it will always turn more one way than the other. Then set the toe while keeping the wheel straight when you drive it forward. I like my toe about zero it seems to get jumpy if I toe it in a little.

Thumbs up Re: G2 alignment

Thanks for the advise. I did get the steering wheel centered,it seems that it was only the card holder that was off center. I had trouble getting the front wheels straight ( one was really off) so I took a piece if 1x2 square tubing about 81/2 feet long held one end up to the center of the rear wheel extending the other end past the front tire and adjusted the front wheels accordingly. I know it sounds a little whiskey tango but it seams to have worked. Thanks again

I believe I know what you did there, but doing that, I'm sure you realized that the rear axle is I think 2" wider than the front axle. So the car (at least a G eight) is a wedge shape. But that is a good reference point anyway! Good work!

I installed a AllSport lift on my G2 also. To get my front aligned and tracking straight I counted the steering wheel turns lock to lock then turned the steering wheel to the center point (half of counted turns).

The trick that helped me the most was locking the steering wheel in that position with several wraps of duct tape around the steering column and wheel junction. Then it was easy to adjust the wheels and tires into proper position.

Anybody know how to adjust the camber? Mine is currently sitting like this \ /

Hey Mike, The allsport lift kit added 2" to each side of the front end. When I placed the square tube up to the rear wheels I could see aboUt 1/8" of space between the tube and the side if the front tires. close enough for goverment work. Anyway it seems to work fine and it's alot better than it was. Thanks again

hey Guambomb, My cart is a G2. from what I've read the front of the rims should be 1/8" closer than the rear.

Lot of people say toe in, that is normal, but I set mine nearly straight. If you run down a road fast and toe in much it will get nervous and twitchy, so I turn mine out a little and it smooths out. Too far (toe out) and it steers like mud, not responsive and wanders around....at speed on pavement. Usually if you move it forward and back and the wheels tip in or out it may be too much toe either way, that means you have scrub and it will wear the tires out on hard surfaces.
