G2 lift
i know lift kits are available for the G2 but im retired and am a professional piddler i want to build my own lift which looks pretty simple but i have a question the 4 plates that bolt on the front a-arm has an offset in all the pictures what is the normal offset if you make more of an offset that will move the frontend forward for more clearance right? or as my wife says am i lost as a ball in high weeds

Re: G2 lift
Yes, the offset moves the wheels forward. I would go for at least 1".

Re: G2 lift
When I welded my own up I simply mounted the arms ahead of the mounts, that is about 2" forward. Made new mounts for the front sides. The offset keeps the tires from hitting the frame/floor. I tilted the arms way down, it presents some issues, I should redo it and tilt them about half as much. Also a good idea to widen the front if you angle them or if you just want to. I have run it this way since '99, if I had time I would lower and widen them a little maybe 1" each side. You also have to make a bracket or you lose sharp turning, or jack up the spindle brackets is what many lifts do. The tie rods are set to be flat to work right. I cut the arms and changed them. The rear is easy just make extenders to lower the shocks. I did put a few holes front and rear to adjust the shocks in/out, they have been handy. The front I used 1.5"x3.5 tubing and put 3 holes in the end to move the shock, welded a quarter inch plate to it and bolted to the frame there. The rear is a 1.25" block up in the mount with 1/8 angles hanging down with holes for shock and bolt to frame to steady them.
Also if I did it again I would move the rear bumper mounts and drop the engine cradle a little, so I could fit 25s and reduce engine angle. I did cut the rocker ahead of the rear tire around 1.5". All you can fit is 22-23 if you don't make the rear wheel well larger. Also note if you plan to trail ride you want it lifted to clear tires not look cool, as more height makes it less stable. If you want higher you need to go wider too....depending on your use. Mine will tear around trails pretty nicely, though it does not ride the smoothest, but I set the rear hard to handle weight in the box. The front is about soft as I can run it in shock angle and half the tire pressure. |

Re: G2 lift
My rear
Front If I did it again I'd make the front arm mount bolts about half the lift lower (maybe 1.5"?) and out 1" each side, roughly. Stock the arms are flat horizontal. I paid nothing for the lift, oh I did by new hardened bolts for the a arms. The metal was all out of the scrap bin where I worked at the time. |
