Default choked to death

got the buggy running but only when the choke is pulled,i cleaned the carb and don't see anything wrong with the jets.

You are running lean- too much air or not enough fuel. What model buggy are we dealing with?

My guess is you have a G1? If so, you need to check the crank seals. They may need to be replaced. What's your compression?

its a 1984 yamaha g1.could be what you said,I had a freind helping me and before I could stop him he started turning the screws so I have no idea what the original settings.is there a factory setting?

Pilot screw basic adjustment is one turn out. This adjusts only idle mixture, so would have little affect on your situation. I would look closely at the crank seals. Replacing them would be good preventive maintenance on a buggy this old even if they seem good.
