G3 gas peddle connection, where is it???
Where is the actual connection that tells the engine to start when the gas pedal is pressed? I have to press it a few times and play with it to get it to go.....(the pedal)

There should be a micro switch at the peddle under the floor. Remove the mat & lift the floor panel.

Ok, thanx, I pulled it out. I can't find the part anywhere in the parts list. anyone have any idea what the part number is so I can check to see if it is still available?? If this switch is not the problem, what else could it be???

Re: G3 gas peddle connection, where is it???
Ok, I'm pretty sure the switch is fine. I press the pedal and I can feel and hear clicking in 2 parts in the rear. I'm pretty sure they are solinoids. One is silver and has 3 wires coming from it, and behind it, is a small black square part. I looked at the parts lists and don't see any of these in it...

actually, I don't think it's the solenoids either. When I press the gas peddle, I can hear the two solenois click and I can see the drive belt start to move. I hold the pedal down and it takes about 2-3 seconds the the cart goes. any idea?

Weak battery?
Bad Connections? Worn or loose belt? Worn starter brushes? Things like that ... |

I'm ruling out battery, connections and belt. I'm thinking mabe the starter brushes. Is that an easy fix? Do I have to get the whole starter rebuilt? Something I can do myself?

Make sure your battery is good/charged and triple clean your connections. Yamaha's are picky about clean connections. If it's not shiny, its not clean. I know this may get comments. But, if still a problem, probably brushes on starter/generator not charging the battery.

Re: G3 gas peddle connection, where is it???
If the engine is spinning over then the generator/starter is working like it should, the engine is just not starting up that fast. Set the idle jet to 1.5 turn out and see what it does. Also hold the cart from moving or jack the rear wheels up, and set the idle so it barely runs just faster than the starter turns it. Get the idle mix right too, set it out a little more than it needs to be but where it still idles nice. That should make it start the fastest in my experience. It should not idle fast enough to make the cart move unless your clutch is dirty and dragging the belt.
If it turns over very slow, the generator needs service or more likely the wiring needs work. It is very common to have bad grounds and other connection issues. Once mine would go to start and go dead. The battery clamps were doing it. I cleaned them and it did the same thing. I cleaned them with the wire brush type cleaner again no change they looked clean. Finally took them off and looked close there was only a slight darkening of the posts and clamp but looked clean. Finally ended up taking a file and going all the way around the posts and inside the clamps to get it to work right. Could not believe it, was like it had carbon in the lead or something not sure. The ground (these have no frame ground) on the starter and engine are notorious for not connecting well and needing cleanings. They will often get warm if you try to start it like that and the heat is where the problem is....all providing you have a good charged battery in there. Also make sure the belt is tight on the generator and its not slipping. |
