Default Crank seal replacement is getting old!

O.K I've checked all over here, and if there's info on replacing crankshaft seals....I can't find it.I did find 1 link that had great pics on the fan side, but the clutch side info was empty.Or my computer wouldn't download or whatever.Anyway.I got the fan side done on my G1.Now,I've got the drive pulley off,and have no idea how to get the alternator pulley off.Does it come off??Do you have to pull the engine?Crap,I'm tired of guessing! Also the bearings are sloppy on that side too.(Ofcourse they are.Anything else would be easy.)I need advice from the experts here.PLEASE!!

Just a quick thought: if the bearing is sloppy enough to feel, then a new seal will only last a month or less. Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news.

You will need a special puller to remove the inner half of the drive clutch. A complete teardown is needed to replace the crank bearings. I would advise tearing the engine down first before ordering parts- you may find other parts worn or damaged as well. The good news is parts for these engines are relatively cheap. If you get that far into it, you should get a factory service manual to guide you.

Note that there are two manuals covering G1. One covers 1979-81, the second 1982-up. Check with our site sponsors, or you can order it directly from Yamaha's publisher.

Hey.Let me ask you guys this...I've currently got the cart running pretty good by locking the choke slighty closed. It shoudn't hurt it to run it a bit like that should it??The deal is,I'm the mascot for our local animal shelter. The reason I bought the cart was to make a parade ride for the mascot. With the first parade coming up on Dec 2nd,I don't have alot of time.As it is,I've got all the sanding and body work to do.As well as paint. It had wooden bumpers on it.Well, those had to come off,and new aluminum ones made. New seats etc.It also has to have all of the Christmas stuff put on it.I was afraid that if I tore it down,I might hit problems that I just don't have time for right now.Plus,I'm paying for all of this outta my pocket.Parts and a manual alone aren't cheap when you only have so much to spend right now.I figure I'll make through all of the Christmas parades(4-5 of them),then go for the needed fixes.Thoughts???

Running a 2-stroke engine with air leaks (like bad crankshaft seals) will make it run lean and run hot. It also may keep the oil mist in the fuel from properly lubricating the internal parts. It usually results in a burned-up engine. I have seen lots of chainsaws destroyed that way. I don't recommend it.
