Ramp Shoes wont go all the way in!
I recently recieved all new parts for the entire secondary clutch for my 81 G1(Thanks TNT). The inner ramp assembly came without the ramp shoes installed- I thought they just tapped in but after a fair amount of force, beating, and a little cussing I can only get them to within 1/8 inch of seating against the metal surface of the ramp. I double checked the part numbers and everything is correct. Any suggestions? I seems if I beat on them any harder they will surely break. All parts are new, including the part the ramps go into.
Thanks for any advice (again). |

Sounds like the wrong ramp shoes. Do you have a pic. Can you mod or grind down the ends of them so they will seat properly? Is there some of the old ramp shoe post still in there?

They seem to look identical to the other ones- of course I cant see the peg part of the old ones. The parts are all new so there is no possibility of there being any of the old one left in. I will post pics soon.

I used to drill out the old ones with a 3/16 drill bit, then from the hole (from the back punhch out any remaining stuff. Then I would spray some WD-40 in the hole and drive them in. Hope you get it figured out.

THanks- I used lubriplate 105 (cleaned it off before pic so the gap would show)

Re: Ramp Shoes wont go all the way in!
I have found the ramp shoes difficult to install as well. The shaft seems to be a little oversize on the ones I have done. You can take some emery cloth and polish the shaft of the new shoe slightly, trim it off (lengthwise) a little, and lube it up well to reduce friction and get them to seat.

Mine did and I ran a drill in the hole, I didn't really enlarge it just cleaned it out. A new part though, I'd say something is a little off spec.
