Need help with OHV registration
Well I want to be able to take my Yamaha G2 golf cart to the same place that I take my dirt bikes so I talked to the ranger and he told me to go to the DMV and get it registered as a OHV Vehicle. So I am like well this is going to be easy so I go down there today and I get in line and wait for 30 min and then my number is called so I ask the lady " I need to register my golf cart for OHV and she looks at me like I am crazy and says I cant register a Golf Cart for off road driving and says there is nothing I can do to register it for off road driving. Is this True? I hope not. Can anyone help me out here with this problem by the way this is in California if that madders,
Thanks Nick |

Re: Need help with OHV registration
Don't you just get a resident OHV sticker like you would to ride in the dunes. I live in AZ but we ride in the imperial sand dunes all the time and we get a nonresident sticker. The cart doesn't have to be licensed although mine is. I would think that sticker would be all you would need.

Re: Need help with OHV registration
I guess the same kind of places that sell them here. Places where they sell quads, dirt bikes, etc. That's where most people around here get them. I'm hoping someone who rides offroad in CA will chime in here who might know for sure. My cart is licensed and street legal, but I also have an OHV sticker on it. You might check if there is a website for the place you're going. It seems like even if your cart is licensed what you really need is an OHV permit.

Re: Need help with OHV registration
hey,
well in minnesota i have mine regisered as an atv, i went to the dmv and went thru the same thing u did. i told the lady give me a regulation book, i went thru the regulations with her and said yup i meet all those. has to have 3 or more flotaion tires, cant weigh over 800lbs...etc.. well she called someone from the main dnr and they said if it meets regualtions to go ahead and make a sticker for it. so i have it regisered the exact way a atv is. make model and serial number is all u need. they can do it, just keep pushing them!! |

Re: Need help with OHV registration
Thanks allot. So there is a book they have that defines a ATV and the golf cart fits inside those guide lines.

Re: Need help with OHV registration
If it is street legal, leave it street legal. If you decide to green sticker(offroad) it, I was told by the DMV you can't reverse it. If it's street legal, you can drive on and offroad. Just have to insure it to renew registration.
It all depends on who you get at the CA DMV, those who know, and those who have no clue!!! You got a clueless one. |
