Default Is this part needed???

Today I took my carb off my 82 G1, and upon inspection and looking at the manual there wasn't any reed valve behind the carberator joint plus no gasket. Is this gasket and reed valve needed? Mine runs fine without it and I have read so much where everyone says to check the reed valve to see if it is in good condition.
Thanks eveyone.

Hi Smallblock, thats right, I took off the carb today to clean it up and I took off the carb joint the thing with 4 bolts in it and there wasn't no gasket and no reed assembly. I know I have read a lot on here about people having trouble with them and all so after taking the carb off today I wanted to check the reed valve to really see what it looks like and there isn't one.
Cart runs fine especially after I cleaned the carb today and adjusted it and the plug gap it sets there and idels great. And at wide open it runs great also.

That's a new one for me, too. 2 cycles can can run real bad with a 'chipped' reed pedal - one that runs without the whole system blows my mind!

Hi Mike, I know what you mean. I read a lot of this forum and see it used everywhere and to find out mine dont even have one is mind boggleing. It did run a little rough but did run and after taking the carb off and cleaning and adjusting it and the spark gap it runs great. Only other thing I done to it was take off the nut behind the governor screw and run the screw all the way in for a little more get up and go.
I read on here a while ago where someone rebuilds clutches and they had a video of where the belt rode before and after. Well after looking at mine real good today I had the G1 up on stands in the rear and my belt is only going up the clutch about 2/3 the way. If anyone knows where I can find that video I would appreciate that also.

Mike I guess everyone thinks I'm nuts but I swear I sure didn't see anything inside after i took the carb off. I posted the same question on a couple other boards and got a few hits but a few thinks I was drunk or something. Its the first time I ever took a carb off a G1 or any golf cart as far as that goes, does it just set there after the carb is off or is it behind the carb holder the thing with 4 bolts in it. I took that think off too and still didn't see anything else that come off. Looked like a big hole to me just like a 4 stroke.

Mike
reeds on a 2-stroke are only used in certain applications. None of my chainsaws have reeds in them.

Finally got a good answer thanks Shawn, man I thought I was going nuts. I had a notion to go out in the garage and tear into it again to see if I missed something.

It's been so long since I've even seen a 2 stroke cart, I can't remember! Had a ParCar in the shop a while back, they sure have a weird reed setup, looks like a daisy. The last G1 I've seen apart had to be back in the early (I mean EARLY) 90's. Most 2 stroke experience I have is on motorcycle and jet ski engines...
