Default G9 only runs with choke?

My G9 only runs good with the choke held open. I installed a new plug, new gas, filter, pump, checked lines, cleaned carb once. It actually runs great with no air box, but as soon as the filter is on it runs half power and it needs choke. And the muffler is not plugged.

still sounds like a carb issue, clean it more thoroughly

Clean carb, the airbox must have all parts and fit together tightly sealed or it will run lean...or you can rejet it richer.

The symptoms are contradictory, runs good no air box but needs choke
to run when air box is on????

That is not always true because the airflow into a carb is not optimal with nothing, just a velocity stack helps flow. However it might not be the airbox, that is just a really common issue.

More or less take the line off the carb and it should squirt with every rotation, then you know you have fuel. If the carb is not dirty then it getting too much air. I hogged my jet out all I did was remove the silencer to the airbox that thing over the generator. Later I took some more parts out but it made little difference.

My air box is sold so i need to find a cone type filter, then i probably need to rejet or just buy the aftermarket carb I tried cleaning the carb again and it still does the same thing. The fuel pump squirts a lot of fuel on every pulse.

Jons, I cleaned my carb three times, before I realized what was plugged. I am sure you've looked at this, but just to help, check the screw in the carb, in the float bowl. The one which stops the float from going lower. It has a tiny hole in it. Make sure that hole is clean and wide open. Sounds like gas isn't getting through this hole.

Thanks I'll check again. I think the problem might be in the main jet, It's stripped and i cant get it out. The screw in the center post with access from the bottom. Hopefully 3 times
i'll get it right...

You can jet it with a torch tip cleaner, use it to file the jet out. But I don't think you can do it in the carb not sure. A larger carb will have limited results, in fact my G9 does 30mph gps and I think it will do the same at 3/4 throttle so that is why I doubt it would change anything.
