Motor Angle after Lift
After I installed a 6 inch lift and 22' tires on my G16, I noticed that the motor is now running at a an angle. Do I need to do anything special to accompany this?

Re: Motor Angle after Lift
Different cart but same issue.I lifted my Marathon,I added shackles at the front of the swing-arm(welded them at the correct axle-location,and bolted them to the bushings on the frame. This leveled the swing-arm and got everything back on the same plane, just gotta watch out for the reduced ground-clearance.We found this out goin over a steep mound at speed and me and my wifes' cousin ate dash-board!Look at my Avatar, you'll see the swing-arm hanging down.Hope this helps

Re: Motor Angle after Lift
I was going to suggest the same thing. Depending on how bad the angle is you may need to drop the front swing arm some to compensate.

Re: Motor Angle after Lift
Knowing that the oil return is at the bottom of the Robin motor proper, I haven't been concerned with my 4" lift.. but I check my oil before I start it every time. The return is at the rear of the engine also..if it was in front, it might be an issue.

Re: Motor Angle after Lift
With a yamaha you need to change the oil and add the spec 1 quart, then remark the dip stick to your new full level. If you fill it to the stock mark it will overfill and cause problems. The rear might puke a little fluid also. Otherwise nobody has problems that I know of, though it can be a good idea to level the swingarm back out. Another advantage is you can move it back a little and then fit 25" tires with some other mods. With the G9 you lose ground clearance with a big lift because the rear arm tube gets closer to the ground at an angle, of course you add clearance with bigger tires. Far as you electric guys, I drilled a hole in the governor arm and put a lift and 22" tires on my cart. It goes 30mph gps on pavement with no other mods, how fast is your electric with only a lift.....lol :) I've run it that way since '99 and finally this year I'm going to replace the engine with a 16hp its worn out.

Re: Motor Angle after Lift
The shackle-lift was dual-purpose on my build. The angle was too steep and pulled on the cables, etc, and also tilted the carb too much.Second, was that i used a TXT body(Marathon Chassis)and needed to move the rear back about 1-1/2" to clear 22" tires and center the axle(when you lift just the coils,it pulls the axle ahead.)

Re: Motor Angle after Lift
Thanks for all the input on this.
I went out and took these pictures. They show the angle my motor is at. I installed 6 inch lift with 22 inch tires. It sounds like it may be ok like it is but I just didn't want to put the swing arm in a bind. |
