Post 83 G1 Restoration

Hey everybody, new to the forum! but have been reading for quite some time now. I just picked up my new project i believe it's a 1983 Yamaha G1, serial number on the back bumper starts with "J24". The cart will have a Jake's 6" A-arm lift, paint job, etc. And just wanted to share for anyone that wanted to see. Here are some pics before the tear-down........

And finally here are some pic's of the "custom" lift kit the previous owner installed. You know sometimes i wish if people don't know how to make a lift, or can't make one properly, that they wouldn't do it,

That's all for now, i just ordered the Jake's lift, it should be here late next week. If you have any suggestions on the cart, comments, etc, please just let me know.

That's already a good looking cart. You'll love it. They are pretty easy to work on and run great.

From a functional standpoint, I don't see anything wrong with that lift. It may not be the strongest design I have seen here, but it looks like it would work OK. Too bad the builder didn't paint it instead of letting it rust- it would look a whole lot better. He dropped the control arms down and moved them forward- those are the important features of a proper lift design. The Jake's will definitely be better. Looks like you will need some new control arms or will have to carefully cut off the shock attaching points and maybe weld in new ears for the shocks. Check the mount bushings-they appear to be worn in the pix. Overall this car is in really good condition for its age- good find!

Thank you!, Well the "custom" lift components in theory could have been re-used. Except for the plates? i guess that's what they are called. The ones that go from the frame to the A-arms. The previous owner installed bolts that are to small in diameter, and lobed out the custom plates, so i would have to either drill it all out, and use bigger bolts, or make new plates. And for all that work i would rather have a bolt on lift kit. And I'm hoping i won't have to mess with the stock control arms. I thought the Jake's kit came with new A-arms? well at least i hope so....
