Default G-14

I have a '95 G-14 that has been giving me fits lately. I bought this cart off a friend needing money for a good price. I installed new carb, lift kit, spindles, tires, fuel filter, air filter, and built a front bumber and rack. I also purchased a ignitor and new solenoid for it. I think I bought more parts also but can't remember off hand.

Ran it for a few days then took it on a prettly long run. Locked the piston in the cylinder (rod bearings were bad). Took the top end off and freed up the piston easily. Ordered new rod bearing, piston, rings, gaskets, etc. and had my brother-in-law hone and rebuild. He said the cylinder looks flawless. The cart runs now, but has low compression (prior to rebuild it was 172 psi, now like 150 psi) and doesnt seem to have alot of power. I had him take the motor out again, split the crank, double check everything and put it back in. Same scenario, low power. Engine seems to run fine, just no torque and compression is off. I put oil in the top end and re-checked compression. It went up to around 200 psi (not sure my compression guage works). I also readjusted my valves to the .004 inch cold as per the book.

So now I have about $2K invested in a cart and I am at wits end. I just bought a rzr and have no more use for this cart and am looking to sell it. If you professionals can offer me advice to get this thing running I would appreciate it. I am not a mechanic (evidently neither is my brother-in-law), but I can figure most of this stuff out, especially with the manual. I am just perplexed at what could be wrong. Rings on wrong? If anyone is interested in purchasing this cart with the understanding that it still needs a little work, with a reasonable offer you can have it. I am located in Hattiesburg MS. Thanks guys.

Bump to the top.

Nobody has an idea on what could be causing this?

Just a wild guess, but maybe your cylinder is not as round as it should be. Might take a while till the compression rings seat to the cylinder. I'd run it and keep an eye on compression, looking for improvement. Ray
