Exhaust coming out the carburator

I have a 2003 Yamaha G22 Gas cart that has exhaust coming out of the carb. I started working on it after someone else did. The cart rolled over and when the other guy worked on it he stated that one of the push rods was not in place so he reinstalled it and tightened the valves. I believe he over tightened them and bent a valve. Has anyone had a bent valve or damaged head from over tightened valves?

He may have valve lash to tight and its not allowing the valve to seat. I would check the valve lash and set as specified.

Thats what i thought initially so I adjusted valves to .010 and still same thing.

put it on tdc and inject air into the cylinder head at the spark plug hole and see if you get air leaking through carb. Your initial assumption of a bent valve may be true.

.01 is too small a gap. In fact, that is practically nothing unless you mean .10 which is too wide. Work on .04 to .05 cold.

The correct valve adjustment gap is .004 (cold). (That is four thousandths of an inch). .04 is 40 thousandths, which is waaay to much!! Other possible problems would be a stuck or burned intake valve. You may just have to pull the head to see if you have a valve problem. Good luck

My mistake I meant .0010 not .010! I am planning on pulling head this morning. Thanks for input.

Pulled head and other than allot of carbon build up on exh valve, they look good valve seats look good and they are not bent. So I cleaned them up and put it back together and ran without exh for short period and no exh coming out the intake. Swapped muffler with another cart and ran much better. So would that muffler BBQ work on this muffler?

From everything I've read here, it seems that the 2 strokes tend to clog mufflers and those are the ones that usually respond to BBQ, but who knows - maybe your muffler is clogged and would respond to BBQ. Possibly someone here with first hand knowledge will respond as to whether or not BBQ will help. Anyway, it looks like you're on your way to correcting your problem. That's good !! - Ray

I don't see how it could could hurt. I BBQ'd my G9 muffler and it helped, but it had been run a long time with excessive oil burning problem before I got it. My guess is the push rod problem wasn't corrected by the previous owner, and now you will be fine.
