Default A way to remove governor on 4 cycle G2???

Hello folks, I am looking to make my G2 go a little faster without major mods. I have bypassed the governor on the rear end which made it faster, but the engine cuts out when it gets to a top end speed(cuts out like the new cars with a speed limiter). Any way to adjust or remove that? It doesn't sound like the motor is getting to a point of over revving when it cuts out. I understand that running it a high RPM's for awhile may or will cause damage to the motor but I am not looking to race it in the 1/4 mile!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This may sound crazy to you... but take the primary clutch cap off and check for a broken weight or very loose weights. I myself would never bypass the govenor...But thats your choice. Later dave

Well I am going to be honest here...I'm not familiar with golf carts all to well yet. But I do know what the primary clutch is. Do I need a special wrench to take the cover off? When I take the cover off, will springs or something pop out? Will this actually make the engine itself cut out(like shut down until RPM's lower)? Do I just replace the weights or loose weights? I mean this cart runs strong until it gets to a certain speed then basically lopes when the pedal is to the floor until I let up on the pedal a little.

Don't worry about being new here... You asked a question and all of us here will try to awnser. If your primary clutch is still a "stock" Yamaha, there will be "6" (I think) phillips head screws holding the "cap" on. Take it off and let us know what you find. I have seen many primary weight "explode" and cause this very same effect. Later Dave

Dave, I took the cover off this morning and it looks like new under the cover. The three weights are all in perfect condition and everything is basically spotless. Clutch slides good on the spindle also but I pumped a couple shots of grease in the zerk.

My only other suggestion at this time is....Your negative battery cable runs to the "end plate" of the starter/generator, Yamaha "pigtailed" a 18 gauge wire into the eye end. I would "cut back" the electrical tape, cut off th 18 gauge wire, add your own eye end and secure it to the "stud" with the battery cable. I am not aware of "rev" limiters in Yamaha "TCI" Ignitor box's. Good luck Dave

Hello, the G2 does have a rev limiter in the ignition box, the one mounted on the gas tank. You have to buy a G9 ignition box and rewire it. You can find rewiring instructions on several forums. Hope this helps!
