Transformation of the Tracecave Buggie

Well I have started tear down of my G9. Hopefully get the frame washed up and painted this week and lift and tires installed.

I did have a couple of questions. How do you remove the steering wheel on these and also on the panel under the seat how do you remove the f/r switch and the ignition switch? I need to get these pieces off so I can get everything ready to paint.

I got mine off the redneck way i put the nut on flush with the top of the treads and tapped it with a hamer as i pulled up on the steering wheel. A couple of hit and mine popped lose. Ive done this on three carts that ive done. Take the nut off the back side and you can push the f/r handle out. The one im working on now i took the nut off and just tapped it with a hammer because it was rusted, and it came out. The plastic black rivots i pushed the centers out and used again.

Ok got the steering wheel off and the other panels off. Soaked everything in Purple power then pressure washed it. That made a big difference! Gonna paint the frame, put the lift, power kit, wheels and tires, stainless steering column, and McMaster Carr springs on the rear shocks on tomorrow I hope. Should be a busy day. Hope you are ready for some questions.

Look like you have some help.. Dose the Purple Power work on the old grease and oil ???

Yes we had a little bonding time since school is still out due to the Tornados. She wanted to do everything which is great. I had her cutting wires and using the drill mostly. LOL This is leading up her and my son scotchbriting all the body panels in prep for paint. I told them if they are going to drive it around and enjoy it then they should be a part of building it.

I had some regular Purple Power and the Purple with citrus and she soaked everything twice then I pressure washed it and we sprayed it again and pressure washed one more time and it looks great now. .

Great project keep us updated.

I've had good luck with the engine degreaser in a can, if it does not take it off just do it again. It can leave a residue so you might need a soap after it for painting/etc. Bleach works great on the white body, just dilute some and leave it on there for a bit.

Your right about the kids, if they want to use the cart it does not hert for them to do a little of the work. Hope every one were you are is safe.

I have seen Purple Power have never used it....

Well I took apart the front end and it looked like I need at least one tie rod end so might as well replace both. Also the Allsports lift kit came with spacers to space the steering linkage up but I can't figure out how you install them. The bolts do not look like they line up with anything.

I took and scotchbrited everything up front on the frame and sprayed it all with the Hammer tone paint from Lowes. It looks real good surprisingly. I did notice a lot of rus underneath on the frame rail from the battery area back. Not sure how I want to handle that yet.

I want to put spray bedliner on the frame by the battery.

Most lifts the brackets go on the spindle arm to raise the tie rod back up level.
