How many sparks per revolution (97 - G16)

Getting ready to install an inductive tach. on my 97 G-16. The tach. instructions call for the circuit to be set for a certain number of sparks per revolution (2, 1, or 1 every other)and I'm not sure how this ignition system works. I'm thinking maybe one spark for each revolution, but that would mean a spark on the exhaust stroke. Four strokes only need 1 spark every other rev. Can anyone let me know how many sparks per rev. my G-16 produces? Thanks in advance for any help.

That's cool Rib but wrong application. These engine use a CDI or magneto ignition with the pick up module fired from the crankshafts rotation, not a camshaft like in that example that is turning one time per every two of the crankshaft.
So they do actually fire again between the exhaust stroke and intake stroke and you need to set it to pick up one pulse per revolution.

Thanks, crash, for clearing that up for me. I set the tach for one spark per revolution and it seems to work fine there. I get around 3300 RPM governed in neutral. - RAY
