Lift kit question again
I tried to search this forum but there is so much information it's almost impossible to find the answer.
Which lift kit for the G1 does not require frame notching?.... |

Re: Lift kit question again
i think all of them do. (im not positive on that but pretty sure). The reason is that its not the lift kit that makes the difference its the clutch that comes on the G1. If you go less than 4" from what im told you DONT have to notch it though. I went 6" so i had to so i dont know that first hand

Re: Lift kit question again
It depends on the drive clutch, I think I remember smallblock Dave saying they came with 2 different clutches. One requires a notch and the other doesn't.

Re: Lift kit question again
I just took a torch and heated the frame....then took my trailer hitch/ball and gave it a whack!!! Perfect notch without cutting or welding!

Re: Lift kit question again
That photo above is the original G1 clutch and most say it will not hit with a small lift. You go higher the bolt will like above. However those wore out and yamaha sold the G2/9 clutch to go on there its has a big rounded gold cover and its huge compared to that one. People section a chunk of the frame out to clear it.
On the other hand I'd tell you to go with a lift that fits 22s, you can get cooler tires and more gear gives more top speed. But a lift for 20s might fit fine with the old clutch not sure with new style, and its cheaper. |

Re: Lift kit question again
Really not about the lift or who makes it, it's the cart. Take the rear shocks lose and jack the cart up 4" at the rear and the front and see if the clutch hits the frame.
