Trying to find large covered tool box to mount to back
I currently have a black metal bed on the back of my cart. This bed is 42" wide x 30" long x 8 inches high.
I'd like to replace this bed with a 42x30x15 covered bed / tool box. I figured it would be easier to find a truck tool box and mount it since they come with a cover that has hydraulic cylinders and is lockable. However, my problem is that I can't find a box that is 30" wide. I need every bit of the 42x30. I don't have the ability to make something myself. The reason why I need it covered is because we use this cart on the shooting range and we carry our shooting bags in the back. I want to be able to keep the rain off everything AND be able to lock it when we go to lunch/etc. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks for the help! Darren |

What about one of these? http://www.weatherguard.com/truck_to...p?subcat_id=18 I have one in my work truck and love it. They come in a few different sizes. Without Building one (welding one up) to your perfrect measusrements you may just have to get close. |

Re: Trying to find large covered tool box to mount to back
I would at least call around in your area, if you find a sheet metal place that does bending like that they might or might know of someone that can make a box. Its pretty easy to do really, though alum is expensive today, anyway just get an estimate. I made a few parts washers about that size to fit chevy heads in out of ~1/8 steel think it was 10ga. Kind of heavy though. Or you could look for a taller box that size to cut down. I made my box 30x40 out of 1" tube, it dumps, then alum sheet on it, and 2x8 cedar sides. Its about the right size. There are some boxes the go on trailer tongues, ATV, etc you could search for. You can buy the spring shocks reasonable if you dig around.

Tractor Supply store has a ton of lockable boxes. I was just in my store yesterday, and they had like 20 different sized boxes, from plastic to diamond plate.
