Default G1 no power......

The cart was running pretty good about a week or so ago. I replaced the old stop switch about 5 days ago and it ran fine then also . I pulled it out today and it starts and runs but has no power at all. Wide open it only goes about 1.68 mph ( or less)haha Whats the deal? Any one have any ideas?

I would check the govenor linkage for correct operation. If its reving but no speed check primary and secondary clutches. If it does not rev up check govenor linkage and fuel flow to carb.

It is definitely getting fuel and the governor is actually not in existence any longer, it was that way when i got the thing. Both clutches are spinning and opening but maybe not far enough, Ill check it out. Thanks for the info, I hope it is something simple as for I haven't even got to really use the thing since I got it...All work so far and no play. Thanks again

It seems as though everything is running and working the way it should. Could the Belt be slipping ( without any sound) and resulting in loss of power ( wheel turn)? I put it up on a stand and ran it everything seems good but the wheels didn't spin like they should, Real slow compared to throttle. The belt is old could it be slipping? I put a lot of work into this thing already and just want to use it sometime soon, so any info would help....thanks

The wear limit on the belt is 27 mm, or 1.06 inches wide. For top speed primary clutch should be closed and secondary clutch open. If all that is good you may have a problem with the gears in the final drive.

I think i figured it out. The governor was disconnected but the butterfly was shut in the exhaust. But then when i went to start it the coil decided to go out. and in the process of putting things back together i bumped the red wire that is connected to the stop switch and it grounded out on the gas peddle. Now the cart has no power through the ignition, wont crank, reverse sounds wont sound nothing.....Wth....Help please its one thing after another with this thing.

check the 10 amp fuse, there are two, one on the positive side and one on the negative side. Most likely the positive side blew when the red wire got grounded.

On my 84 G1 the positive fuse is on top of the passenger wheel well and the negative is on the front side of the wheel well. What year is your cart?

Some of them are in the wire inside a rubber thing, follow the wires around.

Make sure the engine is running and not just the starter. You should be able to set the idle speed on the carb (restrain the cart somehow) so it idles really slow, but faster than the starter. May have to fiddle with the idle mixture that is typically 1.5 turn out. Keep the idle on the rich side for faster starting.
