Question G1 Starter/Generator - Broken Terminal

I was removing the wires from my G1 Starter/Generator and broke off the wiring terminal screw on the side next to the muffler.

Can be replaced?

I see a parts cluster in the manual (j108114810 - Screw 4) but it doesn't show the terminal screw itself just the washers, nuts, and insulator. Does anyone know if this kit include the screw? I don't see the screw anywhere on the diagram.

Boy I don't know, I'd take it apart (not hard) and see. Its not really drivable in this condition anyway. Take it to a motor rebuild shop, or automotive starter rebuild shop. They should be able to help. While your in there, blow it out with air, and I'd replace brushes, weather they need it or not!

By the way, nice car!!

Thanks for the quick response, Mike. Yeh, I'm probably going to disassemble the unit anyway and see what's going on. I was just wondering if I should go ahead and order the parts cluster (+brushes) before I have the time to get it apart.

If its the same parts cluster I just looked at they dont include the stud. I dont even see a Yamaha part number for the stud/terminal. Brushes would be a good thing to order they are a cheap replacement part and since you are taking the end off of the starter you might as well change them anyway. I just did mine and it took me longer to pull the cap off then it did to change them Also while the starter is apart tap the housing with a srewdriver handle and get all that black dust out of there and try not to breath any that's some foul stuff *courtesy of Mason thanks bro* Like Mike said an altenator or starter shop should be able to replace that stud/terminal. Good luck and let us know how it turns out

That's what happened to the G1 we rebuilt, only it was broken inside.
Took it in to be repaired and they had to replace the housing, they said the stud could not be replaced. ($145.00)
Please let us know if you find out differently.

Well, I got the starter open and I don't think its fixable. For the stator terminals, a copper ribbon comes out of the windings and is welded to the head of the terminal stud. No good way to remove the busted terminal other then cutting it off. Then the ribbon will be to short to mount to a new terminal.

If you have a local Yamaha dealer, call them and ask if they might have a used one for sale. I'd still go to a motor repair or starter repair and show them what you got. Got nothin ta loose at this point!
