Default old yami 2 stroke

ok i originally joined the site for questions on a gas club car that me and my boss built up as a pit crew cart to take to the races. we just opened up a new place and there is a old 2 stroke yamaha golf cart up there. i took the carb apart cleaned it out wire brushed the spark plug and had the thing rippin with dry rotted tires on it in about 15 minutes.

my questions are. what can i do to this thing. i have read so far they have a very similar engine to the yamaha blaster. i have a blaster that i drag race (no longer with the blaster engine and actually no engine in it currently...) but i know the engine inside and out from porting to reed cage and carb modifications.

i did not want to go to crazy with the golf cart but the governor needs to come off and it needs to sound better. i heard you can put a banshee exhaust on it. which side works better (easier to fit up.) left or right side of a banshee exhaust. and do they make a oil injection block off kit for this engine or is it something i can modify myself like i did with the blaster. i would like to run my amsoil dominator at 50:1. and does this have a stator i can slot out and adjust my ignition timing. i ran my blaster about 13 degrees advanced and had a ton more torque out of it. my goal is here to have enough power in it to spin a nut. i remember my blaster engine when it was bone stock and it was pretty stout just like that. after i modified the hell out it it was a little rocket so i think this cart has the ability to really beat up on my boss's club car we just built up.

Depends on the year of the cart to start with and what you plan on using it for. Drag racing? My stock 79 Yamaha rear end has no reverse.

ha no i wont be drag racing it. its going to be another pit crew cart. basically to run back and fourth to the pits to the paddock. its just at some of the tracks its like a half mile one way and some of the cars actually need towed towed there and back before and after the races. we amped up our club car to make that trip a little bit faster and make it look a little bit better as advertisement for the business. i will try to find a serial number to figure out the year on this yamaha but it does have reverse.

i just know the potential of modding out a 2 stroke is very easy and big hp gains are possible. the goal is to be faster than our 92 club car with the governor and rev limiter removed. (we had the club car on the highway it will go 25 mph before the valves start to float)

If you go to the Gas Yamaha section of the forum, you will see some "stickys" on the old G1's

i don't really need repair info. i want to know about a blaster or banshee exhaust. each engine has its own little things that can be done. i have not found to much info on the g1's here.

I'd start with removing the governor and running the throttle straight to the carb. That alone should make your old yami walk all over your boss's club car all day.

Frank, you will have to search the forum here. There are guys that have used Blaster heads, guys have put a Yamaha Bravo snowmobile engines in their G1.. I can't remember the thread name or who did it. I'm sure someone will chime in here...

The G1 engine in its stock form is very mildly tuned for durability and reliability. Search for posts from Tikicart and Sho305, they have done substantial mods on the G1 engine to get more power from it.
