Default G9 running crappy and bogging down

So i have checked the air system..no leaks, air filter cap on secured and tight.hoses are all good...fuel pump is clean inside and new fuel filter installed..put carb back to factory setting.but still running crappy.. I have to pull choke out to start or really feather the gas pedal.. then i can only push gas about half way.. and it runs fine but very slow.. then when i push gas down it bogs down and doesnt want to go until i let off gas!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Sounds like it could be the float is getting stuck or the needle valve has trash in it. Could also be the crank seals. When they go out the motor will only run smooth with the choke out.

Oh Oh..sounds like crank seals then..I had to adjust the choke open a little a while ago!!I also noticed a little bit of white smoke when i was adjusting carb.. How big of a job is replacing crank seals?? Thanks Cajun

Before you get into the crank seals, I would like to suggest that you pull the carb. and give it a thorough cleaning. While you have the carb. off, check the two gaskets and plastic spacer for cracks. Make sure the air box is sealed when you finish with carb. I'm not 100% sure, but I think bad crank seals will affect the two strokes more than the four strokes (which I assume you have). One of the more experienced members may be able to chime in here. Hope this helps. - RAY

I agree check the plastic spacer on the carb for cracks which can only really be done by pulling it off and give the carb a thorough cleaning. But I just changed the seals on my 4 stroke g8 because they were bad. I had to run the motor with the choke on for it to run smooth so yes it does affect the 4 strokes. These yamahas are very funny about air leaks and run lean so check the airbox and hoses again just to make sure also.
As far as how bad to change them you will need to pull the clutch and fan to access them. Once off they aren't bad to change.

4 stroke needs choke then you are getting too much air or not enough gas, check for leaks and sealing for the air and clean the carb and main jet to verify you have gas. If the pump didn't pump enough they usually die then start again they don't often bog and keep running (not counting running on the starter). The intake spacer (black thing on head) can crack, you might be able to spray wd40/etc on it and it will run while that plugs the leak, to test it, but not that hard to just pull the carb and examine it. Do not overtighten the bolts on it.

I never heard of 4 stroke crank seals leaking anything but oil, because the crank case is vented anyway unlike a 2 stroke, but who knows. A 2 stroke sucks the intake into the engine under the piston and compresses it some so it shoots up the transfer ports to above the piston as the piston lowers. Obviously any leaks there can cause problems, the space is very small in there with only a small crankshaft so it compresses while a 4 stroke the case is relatively huge containing camshafts and balance shafts and larger weighted crankshafts. The piston makes a pulse in the air pressure but nothing like a 2 stroke that must move the entire intake charge up into the cylinder or it will not run.

One last point is if the spark plug is old or you had a mixture problem that is now fixed....the plug can cause it to run poorly even if it looks good. I'd recommend the ngk 2 plug for newer yamaha instead of the G9 plug, as instructed by my dealer. It is more resistant to fouling.

Hmmm well if that's the case I wonder what was causing mine to have to run with the choke. All I changed was the seals and the crankcase gasket. Maybe the carb gasket was bad cause I did change that but not the spacer
Sorry if I lead you in the wrong direction. Sho would know better than me about these things....

I can't count the times I took something apart and found nothing, but it worked great after I put it back together.....now if that would just work on this big weedeater I have. It runs perfect the next time I use it have to adjust the carb, sometimes the next time I start it up right after it was run. Had the carb off and apart three times now maybe the fuel line is bad in the tank sucking air I don't know. Not that many hours on it, ran perfect every time before that.

Lol, sometimes I'm good with it. This thing will run fine for an hour or 5 min, turn it off and start back up and its all screwed up. I don't get it have no idea what is wrong with it. Its a big straight shaft built by McCullugh or however they spell it. Not the best but not junk, or this one being like new should not be junk yet. Since I have two other ones to use it just sits there until I get back to it. And I keep improving the yard such as to eliminate trimming, hardly any to do unless I go looking out back.
