G16 king pin bushings
Are there any upgraded bushings for the king pins, I found mine have become rather sloppy causing poor handling. Are there any better bushings available, and where's the best place to purchase them?

Re: G16 king pin bushings
Stock replacement Yamaha bushings will last a long time. Venders can help.

Re: G16 king pin bushings
Some of the early cars (even g16's) used plastic style king pin bushings. The newer style are bi-metal. As long as the holes in the lower control arms aren't elongated, the new style bushings are an upgrade. And like Mike said, they'll last a long time.

Re: G16 king pin bushings
Ah, mine are still plastic! So if I order the king pin kit from a vendor will it probably be the newer style bushing? What kind of car guy would I be if I didn't look for the improved part LOL!

Re: G16 king pin bushings
They sould be, make shure they are. I don't do it, but there are some that drill and tap the spindle and install a zerk fitting. Might ask Mike if he did, I think he did. Just make shure there aren't clearance issues on the location of the zerk. And yes...we alway's want them better/more powerfull and better looking

Re: G16 king pin bushings
Uh, ua, not me! Dissimilar metals last a very long time together. no need to grease! Just a light lubricant at the start! I do "never seize" the king pins and roll pins tho... Where they go through the spindle.
Nice car Joe, need ta see more pictures! |

Re: G16 king pin bushings
Mike, good point on the dissimilar metals. I thought maybe the newer bushings would be a self lubricating bronze perhaps. I do like the idea of installing zerk fittings, sounds like an easy addition.
Thanks for the compliment! I posted a few pictures here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/intro...-michigan.html I spent a little time detailing it over the last few days, it spends most of it's life just sitting inside my car trailer and has been used mainly at the dragstrip(I race a Mustang at Milan, MI). I have a new found interest in upgrading the cart and getting a little more play time out of it, so I'll have a few dumb questions for you guys LOL! Here it is cleaned up as of yesterday. |

Thought I recognized a gear head! Car is nicer than I thought!! Is that a winch in the front? Just watch out, these things can hook ya!! And they might be self lubed!

Re: G16 king pin bushings
Yep, that's an old winch off a boat trailer I had sitting around. I welded up a mount inside the nose for it. It has a knob on the side of the mechanism to disengage a clutch to pull the cable out, and is just wired for power feed in right now. I want to wire in a couple relays so I can have power feed out too. It can lift the cart off the ground, so lowering it back down would be much easier(and safer) with power rather than trying to loosen the cable clutch knob. Thanks again!
