Explain this!
I have a yamaa g-2 that will not run. At first I had no spark past the coil. I replaced the ignitor and now i have spark, however, i put the old ignitor back on and i still have spark all the way to the plug. I went ahead and put the new ignitor back on, still have spark on the plug. I have spark and I have fuel all over my new, and old plug, why will this rascal not ever pop like it wants to start? I have fuel and spark, what i dont have is an explaination why it wont spark. Thanks

Re: Explain this!
Last time I had fuel, spark, and no start, not even on ether, it turned out the flathead Briggs had thrown a valve seat insert. So zero compression. Will see how much longer it stays peened into place.

Re: Explain this!
Need a compression test first, and adjust the valves if its under 160 #.
Hope the motor is not blown up! |

Re: Explain this!
I had a similar problem on my G2.
I noticed a hissing sound coming from under the exhaust flange on the motor. Come to find out I had blown a head gasket. Might want to check for that. Have someone else try to start it while you use a flashlight and maybe feel all around the head. |

Re: Explain this!
True,
but he mentioned that he didn't have a way to check it. I didn't either but I noticed this on mine without the use of a compression tester. |

Re: Explain this!
You can pick up a good quality compression tester at Sears. Why bypass the first step and waste time and or money on parts you might not need.
You could also check your local auto parts stores for loaners. After you try to start it, is the plug wet or dry? |
