Cart alternates from running fast to slow.
I have an old Yamaha gas cart and I am ashamed to say I don't know the model. G-3 I think. Anyway it alternates from runnning very fast to so slow it will barely go. It changes suddenly without any advance warning, just like someone flipped a switch. I have had the engine and clutch rebuilt recently and had a carberator cleaning. Nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Cart alternates from running fast to slow.
As far as my knowledge goes (very little haha) there is no such thing as a G3. It probably either a G1 or a G2.
Does the cart require mixing of oil and gas to operate? That means it is a G1. Does it run off of strictly gas? That means its a 4 stroke and more than likely a G2. |

WELCOME TO BGW !!!
I would suspect a carb problem first....take it back to the guy who recently cleaned it 4 a rebuild. |

Re: Cart alternates from running fast to slow.
Thanks for the input. It runs on straight gas. I bought it used without any paperwork so again I was guessing at the model #. This problem is driving me nuts because it happens so suddenly and is sporadic. I will try to have the carb looked at again.

Re: Cart alternates from running fast to slow.
When it cuts down on power is it more like you let off the gas pedal a little or like you just shut off the engine? Does it backfire or feel like the engine is kicking in/out? I would start with tune up items first.
Is the engine still reving when it cuts out? If so, it may be something as simple as a belt slipping. |
