Default My G16 build

I'm in!! I picked up a 1998 Yamaha G16 yesterday off of Craigslist from some folks that took pretty good care of it over the last 5 years. Not sure where it was before that. They actually had all of the maintenance paperwork like responsible people, unlike myself. This is my first cart and my final toy to complete my bucket list of things to get before I buy some acreage at Tablerock Lake in Southern Missouri in a few years. I'll be sure and take some pics as I add on the goodies.

My plans, phase 1:
6" Jake's lift
12" wheels and tires
clear flip-down windshield
Flip-flop back seat
HD springs
lights

Phase 2:
Torque kit
Paint
trailer hitch
Build a utility trailer

Here is my son driving it up on the trailer for the ride home

I bought my 99 G16 almost a year ago, and everyone on the site has been very helpful. I put lights, springs, a rear seat, windshield, and paint on mine. The best advice that I can offer is to use the site sponsers. They have better parts than some of the other retailers. They may be a little more expensive, but from me trying to save $25.00 on a windshield from a local company turned into $50.00 and a 2 hour wasted trip to their warehouse. Plus most of the sponsers can answer your questions, and are actually willing to assist you. To me, that's worth the extra money spent, if any. Good luck

I spent LOTS of money today and all site sponsors, too I think ;)

Some 12" Vampire wheels and tires (Trademark)
6" lift (Jakes)
HD Springs (Jakes)
Halogen and LED lights (Trademark)
Power kit (CartPartsPlus)
- New machined OEM YAMAHA sheave
- Power Spring and Spacer
- Rear clutch puller
- New Severe Duty Driv Belt
- Includes "Severe Duty" drive belt
Rear Flip-Flop Seat (Golf Cart King)

Most of the retailers have free shipping and all were really helpful and patient with my multitude of questions. Looks like I'll have a clutch puller in the mix to add to the Loaner program when I'm finished with it. I must have put 20 miles on this cart at the lake last week. The kids and adults alike couldn't give it a rest. Positive now that the torque kit is a necessity.

Here is a friend and some of the kids:

Just for fun pic, the rest of them on a ride in the other toy earlier in the day:

Thanks Ron. My 6 y/o daughter and wife both want it black with some flames. I like the metallic gray. If we compromise, it might end up metallic gray with flames. I wanted the black wheels, but everyone was out of stock for at least a month. My daughter picked out the ones I ordered instead, which are pretty wild. But hey, it's a lifted golf cart. It's already wild.

Doug your original post made me lmao!!! You MUST be a project manager of some sorts? Phase 1 - Phase 2? If you are - your not sticking to the project plans! You said you would do the tourq kit in phase 2, but your jumping ahead of yourself!!!!

Sorry man. Just had to point that out!

I say black with metalic flames! To many grey golf carts in the world!!

Guilty as charged in jumping ahead since I couldn't help myself when I started ordering stuff. I tend to let projects like this spin out of control if I don't follow a plan of some sort. I figure I should do the torque kit while I have it all torn apart. I'm a firefighter/medic, so definitely not a project manager at my pay grade!

Got her finished for now. I had a hell of a time removing the kingpins for the front lift, but you guys are right: Jake's makes their lifts to be installer friendly. Everything went right in to place for a perfect fit. Very good instructions included, although I didn't know the names for some of the parts they mentioned since I am a complete novice with this stuff.

The torque kit was easy to install while I had the body off the back. I think it took maybe 20 minutes. It doesn't seem to have that much more torque, but I also went from stock tires to 22"ers, so I'm sure it helps.

The back seat instructions were crap, so I kind of winged that part. The seat wasn't tapped for screws, but it wasn't difficult to figure out. The quality of it is nice and the vinyl was a good match in color. I'll have to add some rubber bumpers to dampen the flip seat since it bangs around if no one is sitting on it. I think I'll add some seat belts back there too since I pick half the neigborhood up at the bus stop and don't need any kids flying off.

The lights were an easy install and are bright. The HD rear springs make for a bouncy ride if no one is in the back seat. I wish that I would have bought the other ones from CartParts that add 500lb and give a little on the bumps.
