Default by-passed the govenor

just wondering if anyone knew the amount of max rpms for a 1988 G2 gas, i followed a sticky about by-passing a govenor and because of different topics and different carts mixed in with the tread, i got really confused, and oh boy when the govenor was by-passed what a difference this made for top end speed. because my wife is the primary driver of this cart, i am going to hook up a tach to it, just so she can start calibrating her hearing and feel of the motor. my goal was to make it faster than our friends cart and once again what a difference. Again, anyone know the max rpms for a 1988 G2 gas engine???

As I understand, there is an electronic rev limiter built into the G2 ignition. Can't over rev a G2. Only model that has it I believe.

You should sit back a couple days and read this entire site. You will learn tons on maint. and what mods to do, and not do. All my questions were answered by just reading, even answers to questions I never thought to ask.

Enjoy, Mike

Very interesting, so i guess there is no need for one then, i did take it for a ride a few times and it does cut out at top speed, i guess this is a good thing! Thanks for the info again Mike!

YOu bet!! All Yamaha's have similarities to each other. What you learn about other models, can be applied to yours in one way or another. Very good car (the G2)! Your gonna have fun!

Again, enjoy!! MIke

Yeah, thats what im finding the more i read on this site, the more im learning. I bought this cart cheap off craigslist to turn around and flip to make a profit, i have always enjoyed the 4 wheeler, but since the first ride with this, im thinking the the cart stays the 1 of the 4wheelers will go. My wife absolutely loves it!

Now your thinking!! Golf cars will hook you! Yamaha's are fun to work on, but be careful, once you have done the maint. they run forever, and you will be wishing it would break so you can do something to it. Thats where I am. So I go help other people! HA HA.

Go check out "The New Guy" s G9! Many others here as well! But you will be selling your 4x4 as well when you do!! Also his Geep!!

As a side note; The people on here are very helpful, No mean people here!!

Go read "G2-G9"'s threads! He just keeps adding to the family!!

If you want a good laugh, go read "The G 8 Club" thread! All the fools are there!

This will be kinda like a vacation, Enjoy!! Mike

Yes G2 has rev limit, you can swap to a G9 ignitor without but they are very expensive unless you happen upon a used for a deal, only a little wiring change iirc. I would leave it for a stock cart, when you put 22s and a lift on it you can get rid of it and run it that way, just don't floor it down hills. It runs out of power it will not pull big tires faster than it can rev, but stock tires it might over-rev easily.
