Re: I need your full honest g1 opinion
They are cheap because nobody wants them, they are outdated technology.
Now if you just want a cart to use it can be a cheap buy... just to get a stock runner. But don't even think about lifting it or reselling it. In my opinion. |

Re: I need your full honest g1 opinion
WOW......I paid a hundred for mine. installed a battery and drove it around the block, to date I have about 1500,00 in it. It starts everytime, pulls a 4' x4' 14" deep box of dirt on a trailer no problem ( I was amazed), it may be out dated ( rear suspension needs updating, Articulation ) but it is a work horse and I am very happy with it. See my thread below........KC

Re: I need your full honest g1 opinion
I am very happy with my G1, bought it in very good condition and it suits my needs at camp hauling stuff back and forth to the dock and fish to the fish house for cleaning. If you want to make extensive modifications you will have to look a little harder for parts but they are available. Some factory parts are very scarce, mostly body stuff. (my floor mat came from japan)
If you see a lot for sale try to buy one that has had the motor redone and has good clutches. Its worth paying extra $ for a cart that has been looked after and has all the working parts intact. This forum is an excellent source of information and some research before starting a project can help you avoid troubles while you are into it. |

Re: I need your full honest g1 opinion
Yep, they are old and you're not going to find a lot of off the shelf accessories. But that being said, they are easy to work on and they are workhorses. I've used mine to snake logs and pull a 4x8 trailer full of trash and kids, at different times that is. I have about $600 in mine as it sits right now, but I'm not done with it. This winter the plan is to get the body work done, get it painted and fix up some kind of bed for the back. Here is my build thread- Latest Project G1

Re: I need your full honest g1 opinion
They are old (made 1979-1989) and therefore usually need some work. Sometimes a lot of work. Old technology, smelly 2-stroke engines, and tough as a tank. If you enjoy working on your buggy, you can pick one up cheap and fix it up as you like. If tinkering is not your thing, better stay away and get something newer.

Re: I need your full honest g1 opinion
You know some people like old Corvettes, but I don't understand that. () I mean repair parts are hard to get, and the old engines weren't made with our advanced technology. I've even heard that they won't die if a nuke goes off because there's nothing to fry.
Get yourself a G1, I did, and I'm just getting started with it. I'm going to put a 6" lift on it and the requisite larger wheels and tires. After that, I will figure out some other things to do. It will work and be fun, and I don't need to spend thousands of dollars. Well, maybe not more than a couple thousand dollars anyway. For $200.00 I can live with the work, even though for $500.00 - $600.00 I might be able to get a G16 and do the same things, including rebuilding the motor. Re: I need your full honest g1 opinion
HEy Have fun with your G1s, and your Caroche club cars, your TDs, and 1975 Ezgos .....
It's all good... but if I'm looking for a project cart, I steer away from all the 25-30 yr old carts... It's just me. Sure they are classics. Are they as classic as a corvette? I think not |
