Default Spring or Power Kit?

I need some more power for the hills. Will adding the $40 spring by itself add plenty of torque or does the $150 "Torque Kit" (has a replacement sheave and K&N filter) from several of the vendors add 3x as much torque? Is there anything special about the replacement sheave? I am adding the 12" wheels and a back seat and run up alot of steep hills at the lake.

The spring alone is a nice increase in torque but the kit is even better!

Well, I bought the whole kit from CPP:

New machined OEM YAMAHA sheave
Power Spring and Spacer
Rear clutch puller
New Severe Duty Driv Belt
Includes "Severe Duty" drive belt

The cut sheave works for sure, I'd also try to adjust the tension cable if you have as tight as you can without cutting top speed. A hand GPS is handy for doing that. The tension cable holds the engine away from the trans at high torque and is under the generator pulley on some yamaha. Or you have to move the engine another way. Some run a shorter belt but the adjustment is pretty precise. I don't like the springs but they do work and there is a yamahauler factory HD spring but its not as huge as the aftermarket ones. Also clean and lube the clutches they work better that way it can make a significant difference. Never use a tool on any of the clutch sheaves they will bend/break easily. CPP stuff should be good some of the ebay/etc springs will cut your top speed. They can be a chore to install as well.

Thanks for the tips! I'll lube the clutches when I have it all torn apart and mess with the tension cable after I make sure that all gets put back together properly
