Unhappy G9 getting extremely

I have a 94 g9 gas it's recently been rebuilt it is getting so hot after about 10 minutes of riding it will sizzle water on the valve cover after about 20 minutes starts running bad no power.I have checked everything when first start riding it runs flawlessly. Plastic shroud is in place with no obstructions, new plug, changed oil (synthetic 10/30) new air cleaner, took off muffler can blow threw it pretty easy, not sure if that's a good way to check it. New carb, talked to dealers ( no help) running out of things to check any ideas would be GREATLY APPRECIATED

Does it turn over stiff by hand? Have you checked the valve lash?

Have not tried to turn over by hand, what is to tight? Have not checked valves is that something you can do under valve cover or do I have to pull clutch and side plate?

While not on the compression stroke it should turn really easy, it might have a little resistance if not broken in and that can cause heat.

You have to take that cover off and find the compression stroke where they don't move, use a feeler gauge most are .004 cold. If tighter that can cause heat. Make sure you seal that cover when you put it back on or oil goes down the fins and plugs them with dirt then it really runs hot.

Timing could be off but the flywheel would normally have to be sheared on the key and only just a little, so its somewhat unlikely.

I would jack the back of the cart up and see if the brakes are dragging.

Checked the brakes they are not hanging up thanks for that info, on the valves I had to bore it 50 over will that make the .004 change or will it stay the same? Thanks for the info any other suggestions while I get valves checked would be appreciated. Also forgot to mention that I get a very strange smell out of The exhaust when running friends in cart behind me can smell it pretty strong

so it was not getting hot before you took it out? The only time my motor has gotten hot is when something was wrong with a clutch or brake or mis aligned engine Just saying check the easy stuff that you would not think it could be. I never seem to do that when I have a problem And like sho said , check the drag on the engine.

Not sure if it was getting hot before it came out bought cart with motor bad, it ran ok but looked like a bug fogger going down the road. So I will check valves, motor alignment, and clutches. What's best way to check clutches and motor alignment? Sorry for all questions I am pretty good with motors but golf carts are new to me.

Don`t be sorry for the questions. I think you need to run the cart in neutral and see what it does. It does not have a real neutral but you can get it between forward and reverse. Start it and look at the belt and clutches. Let it run a while and see if it gets hot like that. Also when you do , see how easy the cart rolls just buy pushing it. Another thing, when you run it in gear for a little bit , check the sheaves and see if they get real hot .

You mentioned that your cart was an oil burner before rebuild. Excessive oil burning may have caused your muffler to become clogged, also may be the source of that strong exhaust smell you mentioned. Not sure if a clogged muffler would be cause for overheating but may be worth checking (barbeque!!). Also, check to make sure you are getting sufficient cooling airflow through the engine. Good luck and let us know how you make out. RAY
