Building a hunting buggy, need help
I started out looking at a electric CC, then went to a gas CC. Was told they have weak motors. I think I want a Yamaha gas cart. I want to put a limited slip rear end, flip down rear seat, winch, power kit, and a Jake's lift on it. What year should I get? What else should I look for? Is the Yamaha gas cart the best one to build a hunting buggy? How can I find engine specs? Prefer a late 90's model. Thanks a bunch.

Re: Building a hunting buggy, need help
Never herd anyone say anything about CC having a week motor. any of the three major cars would probably make a great hunting cart. As far as the limited slip goes I have the one BU sells & don't think it is worth what they are charging, because it Don't help my cart much, but there is other option on that. being a hunting cart your going to probably want torch more than speed so don't go to big with your tire choice, (unless your going big block) all that clearance that a taller tire gives you don't mean **** if it wont pull itself through the mud

What is the best option to get traction from both rear wheels?I was going to get 22" tires w/ 10" wheels.

Okay, I've just been told by someone who sells lots of Yamaha golf carts that all Yamaha carts come w/ limited slip rear end. Is this true? Thanks

Re: Building a hunting buggy, need help
i dont think so my yamaha doesnt have it (old g1 and I know the g2 doesnt....plus they wouldnt sell the kits at bu if it was already there would they? (unless its only on the newest carts)
as far as the big tires you can offset the gearing change with a power clutch this gives you back the low end power you would lose with bigger tires at the cost of the gained higher speed you would get from the bigger tires.....I got 22" tire on my stock yamig1 and its got plenty of power to climb (its also 28 years old).....first test was climbing the ramp into the truck.....if you truly are using it for just hunting you arent going to be flying through the wood anway....and you would be surprize how good agressive tire hold traction on these even without the limited slip kits.... |

Re: Building a hunting buggy, need help
I run 23 inch alltrails on my G16 with a 7 inch lift kit. When I first got it on there the stock clutches would hardly get it over a rut. I got this clutch
http://plowmanscarts.com/hp_clutch-kits.html from Don and a Comet 94c front clutch off of Ebay. The cart will now go through just about anything. I mud with it ALOT and as long as you wash it when your done and keep them good and greased they will work great! With most of these carts the problem with power and tourque lies in the clutches not the engine. |

Re: Building a hunting buggy, need help
Thanks everyone. This will be my first buggy to build, so any advice will be greatly appreciated. How can I tell if the cart already has a slip diff rear end?
