clutch doesnt slid back after belt engagement
Hello I am new to this board. But need a little help.I just bought a 1980 G1 CART.Got it running last week. But the clutch moves forward but will not slide back.
Do I need a clutch puller to get it off.And can these be rebuilt?Any help on this subject would be great. Thanks In advance!Mike |

Re: clutch doesnt slid back after belt engagement
Lets start simple Mike. Check the shafts that the outside sheave slides on, be sure it is clean. Check the secondary clutch for a broken spring or worn out sliders(the little plastic wear buttons that slide on the helix). |

Re: clutch doesnt slid back after belt engagement
Doomsman's advice still applies.
You do not need a puller to remove the outer half of the drive clutch. If your clutch is the original one like in the first image, remove the big bolt in the center, remove the outer half of the clutch, clean, inspect and lubricate, No repair parts are available. If something is broken or worn out, you need a new clutch. If your clutch is the newer style in the second image, remove the screws around the outside, remove the cover, then remove the big bolt in the middle. Clean, inspect, lubricate. Repair parts are available for this clutch if needed. This clutch does not have a spring in the middle to push the sheaves apart. It relies on the secondary clutch to supply tension on the belt and pull the sheaves apart as engine RPM drops. If the secondary is sticking, the primary may not work correctly either. Servicing the secondary clutch does require a puller. See the sticky at the top of the forum, "Yamaha Torque Spring Instructions" |

Re: clutch doesnt slid back after belt engagement
I would like to clean and lubricate mine also. The clutch om my G1 looks like the first one, but I can't get the bolt out. Are there any tricks that might help?
