82 G1 carb
Hi, I just got an 1982 #J17-003252 chassis and I believe I have some carb troubles? I have a MIC with number J17-01 stamped in it? Does this sound right? Does anyone know the HP and TQ for these? They are 250cc?

Re: 82 G1 carb
J17 would be correct for a 1982 G1 gas cart. These are 215cc engines, I have never seen a published HP rating for them, but the most common figure I have seen is about 8 HP. Let us know what kind of carburetor problems you are having, perhaps we can help. What is TQ?

Re: 82 G1 carb
Thanks, GMB74. TQ (torque) I am having some fits with this thing! I'm a pretty good troubleshooter, mechanic, etc... Some 2 cycle knowledge with snowmobiles. My G1 runs horribly, starts hard and surges (not from the govenor), . Likes to run a little better with some choke. I suspect crank seals, although clutch side RPM doesn't increase with spraying brake clean. Compression is 115lb cold. Throttle shaft doesen't change RPM with brake clean, either. I don't want to throw a bunch of money into it. My oil injection don't work and needs a drive belt. I looked into the exhaust port and there is light scoring. I have cleaned the carb. I will get more into it and report... I appreciate whatever input from you guys! Thanks, Artie

Re: 82 G1 carb
I have not seen a published figure for engine torque.
With 115 psi compression, I would not worry about some light cylinder scoring. If the engine runs better with a little choke, and the carb is clean, you have an air leak somewhere. Crank seals are very likely to be leaking given the age of the buggy. The clutch side seal may not be able to get a whiff of carb clean because it has to draw it through the oil pump drive gearcase. If you cannot find an air leak elsewhere- and it sounds like you have things pretty well covered- better plan on doing crank seals. |

Re: 82 G1 carb
I ordered BOTH ends this afternoon, from a sponsor on this site. I'm hoping that I can use a bolt and pin to pull the clutch? I'm hoping to get a pic of a puller??? Anyone... I wonder how to check the oil inj. I have some oil flow into the carb, not much?

Re: 82 G1 carb
Oil injection feeds a tiny amount of oil into the carb. If you have anything coming out of the line- in small spurts, not a steady stream- that's all you get.
Link to crank seal replacement. There is an image of the puller you need in the link by ic746 here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...tting-old.html |
