Default smoking g2

Hello, i'm a newbie to these golf carts. I bought an older g2 with a Yamaha 4-stroke that smokes badly. It's oil smoke, as i am constantly adding oil.but the engine runs good and seems to have quite a bit of power. I pulled the spark plug, its very dark and soot covered. I guess it needs a rebuild, can anyone advise me on where to get a repair manual for rebuilding these engines or any other advice as to why its smoking so badly?
thank you all for your help.

sounds like you have a bad set of pistion rings, allowing the oil to leak past. what is the compression like?? plus the motor is a realy simple thing, not hard at all to rebuild. if there is a machine shop in ur area the can bore it, or u can hone it if it is still possible.

oops almost forgot, i think there is valve stem seals under the valve springs, check those, make sure they are good, thats the easiest thing to fix. then u can go further if needed..

You may want to look at the tread "G16 smoking", almost the same as your question....But with no parts manual. Good luck Dave

thankyou for info. comp tested at a little over 90lbs.plug soot covered. even the top of the piston looked almost wet with oil. I am surprised it runs as good as it does. can anybody send me info like out of a repair manual on how to disassemble and rebuild? thankyou lips

check the oil level it should hold 1 quart only, no more. Too much oil will smoke and have oil in the air box. Just drain, put in 1 quart and notice where the level is on the dip stick for future reference.
