You need to give the rest of the cart a hard look over to see what else it needs. Is the suspension wore out, tire tread left, belt condition, brakes, etc. Without being able to run it, you have no idea if the rear end is good, electrical works (voltage regulator, etc), if the clutch works...on and on. You could buy a cart like this and have to stick $500 in it EASY to get it working. Too many unknowns for me personally.

See if he'll let you get it running first before you buy it?

Looks like a new carb will set you back $200'ish? Sometimes just a good cleaning and polishing is all it takes, or a rebuild kit? G1 is a 2-stroke so I am guessing there is a low speed mix needle and a high speed mix needle. I am sure on this forum or somewhere, the tuning procedures are well detailed.

Do you know the guy or is it a classified listing? Another factor I use on buying anything used is to look at the rest of the machine. If everything else is clean and looks well maintained, chances are it was well taken care of and the carb issue is what he says it is. If it looks like a ratty old cart and needs lots of TLC, I would walk away :)

Sounds like this is just what you have been looking for.

Seriously,
You need to look the whole package over and try to determine how much you are going to have to dump into this project. If the engine doesn't run, you can't fully evaluate it. Check the compression, if it is under 100 psi you will need to rebuild the engine. Crankshaft seals are pretty much a given, this could be why the carb "needs tinkering to run". Maybe the carb is worn out and needs to be replaced. BeatYourTruck has given you a lot of good advice. Reread the responses in your "honest opinion" thread. I don't know your mechanical skills, but if you have the determination and will listen to what we say when you ask for advice as you start work on it, you will learn A LOT.

Don't fool yourself into thinking this is going to be a cheap project. You will spend some money on it. Consider it the cost of tuition in the school of life.
