Default 1987 Yamaha gas cart backfiring problem

I have an 1987 Yamaha gas cart which backfires when you first acelerate on the gas. I checked the throttle and it fully closed when the engine is stopped.
The spark plug is slightly carboned. Any hints what I should check next?

I think an '87 is a G2 model witch is a 4 stroke engine. Check your air filter and make sure your air box is sealed tight.

My filter is clean and the air box is tight. I tried an throttle cable adjustment as recommend on another thread that I read. My golf cart works fine now, no hesitation or backfiring. Thanks for your relpy.
