Default gas pedal start bypass?

I just brought home a very beat '91 G9, it runs pretty good sometimes. It will shut off while driving, but if I wiggle the wires going to the switch that is on the gas peddle it will start back up. Can I just bypass this switch and add a key switch with a start position and have it run all the time?

If you talking about connecting the wires to the terminals on a switch that has a temporarily engaged position for starting a car then no, the switch has to be on all the time for your car to run. It won't start up and run like a car. You can connect the wires it to an on and off switch but you will have to turn it on and off every time you want to go from forward to reverse. The best bet is to just fix the wires and or the switch.

The key will make it run (if it is on) right now, if you jumper the pedal switch and set the carb for a slow idle so its not running on the starter. I would recommend you try to clean the old one or replace because the stock clutch tends to drag on the belt some at idle. Most people are not used to pedal start but it is very handy with a cart. If you only trail ride then you don't need it, about any other use its quite nice once you have it for a while. You also have to turn it off to shift to reverse with a stock clutch, which is a pain without pedal start. You can adjust the throttle cable and carb so the cart idles with your foot just on the pedal, and only takes off when you step down more, that is how I run mine so I can keep it running if I want...long as I am on the cart. Set it to idle just faster than the starter spins it, and have about 1" travel at top of pedal until the carb starts to open to take off. You should still be able to get full throttle that way.

If you just want to bandaid it for now, you could check the wires there is a diagram posted here in the stickies. I think its the white/red wire is power from key to pedal and pedal back to ignition. You could simply put a switch in from the key out to pedal over to the coil wire to bypass the pedal. Turn the switch on while driving it around so it would stay running if you have a short in that switch/wire/etc.

Hey sho305 thanks, I have a switch in the garage to make sure that is the problem. I need to replace the key switch anyway and I was hoping I could fix two things with one part, having to shut it off everytime I need to switch gears would be more of a pain than fixing it the wright way!

Yamaha primary clutches dont have a spring in them. So the cart wants to move under the power of the starter. This is why you would have to sut it off to change from forward to reverse like Sho said.
