Default G16 Radio update

Awhile back on a couple threads I stated some options where I would install my radio. I wanted to post a couple pics of what I did. I am going to cover the middle cup holes over the radio with either painted sheetmetal or diamond plate. I really like the way it came out. I also replaced the stock steering wheel and that is a huge improvement in the way it feels to drive. Let me know what you'll think and any ideas you have.

I like the location, but what about water proofing or protection from the elements? Is that radio a marine radio? I can't tell from the picture, but if it is, please let me know where you got it. I really don't like the look of the white colored marine stereos. I do have a question for anyone...on a gasser cart, if I mount the speakers in the body near the engine compartment, is there any damage done from engine heat? Has anyone installed speakers there and wrapped the speaker with heat shield or anything similar? The engine compartment on my cart gets warm, especially during the South Florida summers.

You can get marine enclosures to use on the radios, or just the front cover that closes. Can also get remotes for them and put the radio inside someplace.

I have ordered a plastic diamond plate pattern piece I am going to cut and rivet, tape or glue to the top of the cupholder area to cover the area above the radio. I will post pics after I do it. The radio is by Dual and it is not marine but it is "mechless" as they call it. I has radio, sd card, and aux input. I figure it wont get too wet if I'm somewhat careful, and you can't really use a cd when its bumpy but you can use the sdcard for music when it is. I thought is was perfect for cart use. It was cheap off amazon, and does not sound half bad.

My speakers are 5 1/4 mounted on top of the rear right behind the seat and 6x9 mounted on the kick plate. No heat problems as far as I can tell on the 6x9s, and they have no heat sheild. I will post pics of those when I get them reinstalled. I have it taken apart to paint the body right now.

I bought a Sony marine stereo speaker combo. Mounted the stereo in the left cubbyhole next to the steering column. Fry electronic store sells a mount anywhere stereo holding device that fit perfectly. It's actual in the cubbyhole so I'm not worried about the elements. Two speakers were mounted in the body molding beneath the seat. Its on either side, left and right of the forward/reverse lever. I didn't remove the insulated foam backing that was installed from the factory. The only thing we did was study the placement locations so the speakers would have plenty of room in the engine compartment. The system was purchased from Crutchfield for $199.99. This Sony has more than enough sound for me and I highly recommend.

Thanks fellas for the input. I just received some end of the year payout checks from my job, so it looks like my cart is getting some accessories. My wife has alraedy put her requests in, and a radio is first. Now I just need the time to buy and install it...
