Re: Yamaha g2 running better with the air filter disconected
Filter box is sucking air. Need to seal it. Or manifold spacer cracked.

Re: Yamaha g2 running better with the air filter disconected
My air box seems to be sealed really well and I took the carb spacer off and it is fine. When I take the jet out in the center if the picture it runs great with the air box on and sealed what does this mean?

Dawg, from the looks of that carb. I would take it off, take it apart and soak it in carb. cleaner over night. Then get a can of carb. cleaner (spray can) and spray it with the little hose that comes with it, through all the little orifices that are on the carb. body, and looking to make sure the spray comes out another hole in the carb. body. I think it is just dirty.

Re: Yamaha g2 running better with the air filter disconected
I tried it all I cleaned the carb twice then soaked it for 24hr and cleaned it again checked the spacer took the air box off and looked over it really well put a new plug in and it still wont run unless it is chocked or the air box is disconnected. Any other possibilities of what it may be I think its weird how the mor air it gets the better it runs

Man, its gotta be something simple. Are the 2 gaskets there on each side of the plastic spacer?

Ya know, Smallblock is always saying; that the prim. clutch and make a car feel like its missing and run crappy. Might check inside the clutch can, see if the weights are working normal.
If your chocking it, its less air. |

Re: Yamaha g2 running better with the air filter disconected
Yeah there both there but I just tried another carb and its doing the exact same thing and I just realized that on of the studs on the spacer is pulling out and won let the carb tighten down all the way so I guess I will buy a new spacer and try that. Thanks for the input

Re: Yamaha g2 running better with the air filter disconected
Bet thats it!! Mine was like that, replaced it and it ran great after!! Get new gaskets as well. They get hard with time and heat. Then don't seal as well. New ones will allow you to not have to torque the bolts down as tight to seal. And their cheap enough.

Re: Yamaha g2 running better with the air filter disconected
Thanks for your help Mike Mac I did the spacer and it helped but still not right so I got a fuel pump rebuild even though it seemed like it was pumping enough fuel but I figured it cheep enough and that fixed it I still have to use the choke a little more than I should but its good enough for me
