G16 scondary clutch adjustment
Long story short the governor shaft ears broke on the rear end, so I took it apart and put the gov. Shaft back In. Now the weights fly open and the cart has to much bottom end. I no the sec. Clutch has abc and 1234 adjustment. I need to know what's the softest setting there is. Also what is stock. Thanks steve

Re: G16 scondary clutch adjustment
I think B 4 is stock. Can't be 100% sure. I've tried all variation with this pattern and none seemed to make a difference. So, I really don't think it is going to matter which adjustment you use.

Re: G16 scondary clutch adjustment
Too much bottom end, I don't understand. You can adjust the throttle cable if you don't want as much response.
The secondary spring preload mostly controls backshifting. The more you wind it (rotation degrees) the more it will not back shift. For example if you wind it up really tight the engine will run at shift rpm all the time, shift rpm is what it runs at on the floor. It will be noisy and take a lot of fuel, but it will never overheat. It will be really responsive but still only has 9hp. If you put it in loose and don't wind it much at all then soon as you use partial throttle it will shift out and run low rpm. When you floor it, it will shift back and go back up to shift rpm only at full throttle. It takes a little to shift so it does not feel as responsive, but it should run even with a cart wound up tight it should run the same top rpm. It will be quiet at part throttle, take less gas, etc. The stock setting is not far above that. Using different holes varies the degrees you end up with once you get on the ramps, that is what they are for. Put it on and turn it X degrees and engage the ramps, put the nut on. This can change some other things about the CVT, but not that much. You can cheat and an old spring put it in a vice and stretch it longer that gives a little more rpm. You can get the yami spring for the work cart with the box it shifts a little higher but is not as much spring as an aftermarket. The aftermarket are huge springs that do not preload at all they use only static pressure. The preload loads the ramps and makes them rotate more or less depending on engine torque. Note a G1 does not use preload because it also runs backwards. |
