Talking Another G9 in my stable

Just picked up another G9 tonight ... a '91 that had been used in an apple orchard as a "supervisors cart". A guy could cover the 20 acres pretty quickly and keep track of what was going on.
Top, for some reason, was CUT off. :-( Seat has been recovered in some tan vinyl that doesn't match anything. But on the plus side it runs OK (was able to drive it on the road and then up the ramps into the back of my P/U), has a new air filter, one side of the secondary clutch was replaced last month, new belt last month, oil change last week, new primary clutch 6 months ago. $350. Of course it was an 80 mile RT to pick it up and had to go to Canada for it. I'll get some pics tomorrow and maybe a better report on how it goes up the road when I disconnect the governor. It was just getting dark when I got to the place so I'm not sure what it really looks like, but I don't think there are any problems that would make be regret buying the thing.

Wife hasn't objected yet so I guess I'm still good for at least one more!

Sounds like a good buy... Especialy if it pass's the wife inspection! As long as you have a good running cart, thats half the battle. Doing the cosmetic part is the fun stuff if you as me. You'd think being in an apple orchard they would want to keep to the top on, but on the other hand maybe they just wanted to inspect the top of the trees. Did you see if they still had the top?

The top came with it --- it just needs the struts welded back together. The reason the top was cut off is to allow them to drive in the orchard without knocking the apples out of the trees. This was just a family-type orchard -- about 20 acres of mixed apple varieties -- for commercial use. The larger orchards usually use 4-wheelers or gator-type carts. Orchardists even use low-profile tires on their tractors to get as low as possible -- and some use old Subarus with the tops removed to get around.
I already have one G9 without a top, so maybe I'll figure out a "quick attach" system for this one so I can simply put it on/take it off with set-screws or spring pins. Shouldn't be too difficult. And I will stick with a 4" lift and 20" tires ... the 22" on my other cart is just a bit too high for some older riders to handle without problems.
For the past couple years I've used my cart to transport mobility-impaired people at local fairs (county fair, Barter Faire), staying pretty busy. I think I will start using 2 carts for better service. Maybe 3. Other than that I will use my first G9 for brush-popping (chasing cattle through rough country during round-up), checking irrigation lines (up to 1/3 mile long), bringing the horses in for saddling ... general farm/ranch jobs - so a top would be in the way more often than not. And forget trying to keep a paint job decent! I think a "flip-flop" seat is the only further change for that one. The new G9 will probably get a bit more customization, but I will stick with cosmetics and not mess with the engine too much.

I'm not sure how to post pics ... I've tried several things. I know I've posted pics before, but somehow I've forgotten what I did! :-( Anyway, pics are in my album http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/membe...t-s-carts.html

Yeah, he was dropped off up in the hills by our upper pasture about 1 1/2 years ago. Looks like he might be part german shorthair (has webbed feet but no undercoat), maybe part terrier of some sort. He's about 33" at the shoulder and weighs about 45 lbs. Seems to be a "sight" dog as his vision is excellent rather than a "nose" dog. Definitely not a herd dog of any sort. Good thing is he HATES coyotes -- does a good job of keeping them away.
I like him because, though he looks fearsome, he is very gentle and friendly to people. He really wants to please all the time. Good dog ... not too stupid. :-)
