03 yamaha smoking
My 03 yamaha smoked just a little before I changed the oil. After I changed it, it blew alot of smoke out. I checked the level and it was perfect. I changed air filter and also spark plug. (old spark plug was fouled but cart still ran) I was told that there could be a bunch of build up in exhaust and that was what was causing it to smoke. I was told to put cart in neutral and run it for 25 min and it should blow it out. I thought that it worked because it began to burn clean. After letting it set for a while it began to smoke again when trying to run it. Dont know what to do.

Re: 03 yamaha smoking
I had the same problem on my '01. I changed the oil using a vacuum pump from the dipstick tube and pulled out well over 1 quart (which is way too much considering it only requires 1 quart). I put 1 quart back in and it still smoked, but after driving it about 20 miles it has stopped smoking completely and runs perfect. Give it some time. If you are still having problems after the next 10-20 miles then it may be time for a top end rebuild...it all depends on the hours and amount of abuse that engine has been through, but be patient for the short term.

Re: 03 yamaha smoking
You both need to drain the oil by removing the drain plug. When its all out, reinstall the plug, and put just 1 qt. of oil in the motor. Note where the oil is on the dipstick, and that is your full mark. Jason, pulling oil out with vacuum, probably didn't remove all the oil, and especially the impurities lying in the bottom of the case, which is the reason you change it. As far as smoking, need to read this site. Much has been said about smoking carts.
Welcome, both of you to BGW! Jason is right, need to drive it, get the muffler hot. It burns the oil out, not blow it out. |

So does mine Jake. But I've lowered the front of the swing arm about 3 1/2" on mine.

Re: 03 yamaha smoking
The rings need to be replaced on my golf cart. Not to bad of a deal. The air intake was clogged with dirt and grass. It caused it to get hot and the rings to go bad. Thanks to all who posted their experiences.
