Default Older G1 2-stroke

I am new to the forum and new to carts. I have purchased an older G1 gas cart. I feel like I got a good deal on it. The guy said it wouldn't run and he was tired of trying to fix it. I gave him $40.00, took in home, cleaned the carb and air filter. It's amazing what a clean air filter and fresh gas will do. This thing runs great and is much faster than I expected. Now for my questions. How does the G1 rate as far as durability? Anything I might need to do, other than the usual, as far as maintenance?[grease fittings, cables, switches] Where is the best place to find accessories such as a lift kit, wheels, brush guards, etc.? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Boo

Welcome to BGW!!

Some say the Yamaha G1 is one of the best carts ever built. It is a tough cart and can be setup to be very fast. As far as lift kits, tires / wheels and other parts call Tom at CPP. You may not see it listed on the website but they can get it!! cartpartsplus.com

Where did you find a pipe for a G1?

I'm gonna go find a yz 250 pipe and see how much molesting it will take to get it to fit nicely. I think the reed blocks will inter change also. I have to say my G1 is the most stout built cart I've seen yet. I also have an older Pargo 12 seater that was built for industrial use and the G1 still is more robust. Jake's kit looks to be the way to go for ease of install and bang for the buck!

I agree, the 2 cycle was a great golf car engine/tranny combo! I think the enviormentalist's got into the golf car thing. I would really like to see a pix of your muffler set up. I have never built a lifted G1 because I heard the primary clutch would hit the main frame....Yet another pix I would like to see. I know "Jakes" makes great lift kits so it would be the way to go if I lifted a G1. Later Dave

Thats a sweet lookin setup. I gotta keep an eye out for one of those pipes. I like the dual shock setup you got on there too.

450, with a jakes lift on a G1 you have to cut a notch in the frame for the clutch. after the lift the nut on the clutch sits about dead even with the frame. I was in a hurry and just cut a notch just big enough for the nut to move up and down with the swingarm. I need to fill in the hole with some steel bu iv'e never gotten a round to it, but it hasn't caused any problems, YET.
