Re: Yamaha G1
The manual says governed speed of 12 mph. You can disable the govenor then install larger wheels and tires to get more top end speed. Do some reading and see what has worked for others before committing to a course of action. There is no one change that will give you top results but a series of well thought out changes will give excellent performance. (eg. larger wheels and tires often need a lift kit installed, lift kits over a certain height require frame and steering modifications, etc.)

Re: Yamaha G1
How Fast does a 1980s Yamaha G1 Golf Cart go With Governor? 12-15 MPH, about the same as most stock golf carts.
How Fast does a 1980s Yamaha G1 Golf Cart go With Governor Removed? 20-25MPH, slightly more than most golf carts. Does it Have Power for Steep Hills? How steep? Remember it's still a golf cart. Look, Matt. These are old carts but if they are well maintained and in good mechanical condition they can hang with the best of them....golf carts that is. They are not off road machines, unless they are heavily modified. With the stock 2 stroke engine you will not be blown away with the power. The run pretty good, but they are not powerhouses in stock form. And remember they are 20-30 yrs old. I love mine. There are guys/gals here that love theirs. So my advice would be to buy one based on budget and what you like. Buy the best condition cart you can find for the money you have to spend. Good luck. |

Re: Yamaha G1
I had my G1 top out at 24mph with the gov modded. That was a 6" lift and 22" tires also

Re: Yamaha G1
Sounds right. Mine does 24 mph slight uphill, 26 mph slight downhill. So we'll call it 25 mph. It does take a long stretch of road to reach that speed. I'd say it gets to 15 mph pretty quickly say 4 seconds, then takes another 4 seconds to reach 20 mph, then another 5 days to reach 25 mph LOL.
