Default Advice: Removing the Oiling System from my G1

I have a 1979 G1 that I've been pre-mixing the fuel and oil (50:1), so I no longer need the oiling system. Any advice/instructions would be great. Figured I'd ask first before just tearing stuff out.

Thanks!

You don't need to do anything except stop using the oiler system, unless you are removing the clutch system etc, then I'd say go ahead and disassemble the oiler and save it. Always use a high quality gasoline, synthetic 2 cycle oil for air cooled engines, and preferably one that has an ethanol treatment in it. Ethanol in our gasoline is unhealthy for our engines because it reacts with the aluminum and various metals and can cause failure. Many of todays better 2 cycle oil have additives that neutralize the alcohol's effect on these metals and it also preserves the fuel. 50:1 is a good start, some people use even less oil, but usually the synthetics smoke less anyway.

Good luck.

That's what I thought but wanted to check with the pro's! Off hand, are the 2 cycle guys using 92 octane fuel? I had an old 2 cycle motorcycle and ran 92 in it and it started and ran great. Again, figured I'd ask in case these small 2 cycle motors can handle it.

Thanks again!

You don't need the higher octane fuel in your G1. The high octane fuel burns slower than the regular 87 octane and is useful in high compression engines to eliminate preignition and detonation, commonly heard as knocking or pinging.

Hi Jim, The oiling system works on my cart so i cannot speak from direct experience in that regard. Generally the 50:1 mix should be ok but how you use the cart is a big factor as well. Idling and slow operating speed needs a richer mixture than wide open throttle so if you do a lot of that there is a chance that the spark plug never burns off the residue. The only way to be sure is by checking your plug periodically to see the condition. Somewhat black and dry is ok, heavy black oily deposits indicates too much oil or excessive idling and low speed. The other problem with too much oil is a build up in the muffler. Here again idling and low speed do not build up enough heat to burn out the residue. That should be enough reasons to take her out for a fun full throttle ride periodically. ;)

I mix mine 1.5 ozs. oil per gallon of gas = 85:1 and it works good.

I've been doing 50:1 and it runs good, but smoky. Next batch will be 85:1 since I've heard others have had good luck. That will actually create a richer mix because there is more fuel/less oil.

I agree. I mix mine 80:1...... 3.2 oz to 2 gallons of gas. Runs good. Little to no smoke.
