ignition key switch for my 1979 G1 Yamaha Golf cart
New to this site, friend of mine told me about this buggy's gone wild. I will say that I have a new found respect for my ole project cart after reading some of the threads. My question is does anyone happen to have a part number for an ignition switch for my 1979 G1 Yamaha gas golf cart? I only need the switch and it will be ready to go. Thank you all for the great advise and I look forward to adding some cool mods to my new to me golf cart.
Thanks again, Harley |

I believe the part you need is called "main switch assembly". Number is J17-82508-20-00. You can download or view the parts manuals and owners manual at yamahagolfcar.com. Click on the service tab.

Re: ignition key switch for my 1979 G1 Yamaha Golf cart
Previous owner of one of my G9s replaced the key switch with a pull/push on/off switch. Nothing special about the original switch unless you really want to keep it original. Even an on/off toggle switch will do the job. It does nothing except supply power to the electrical parts.

The G9s and other 4 strokes use a much simpler ignition switch. |

Re: ignition key switch for my 1979 G1 Yamaha Golf cart
Thanks for that info. Never having had a G1 I just assumed the ignition was similar. If I had thought about it I would have known there was a difference. Only 2-strokes I have dealt with have been small outboard motors and motorcycles ... neither of which have reverse. Sorry for the mis-information.
